Every state has a database that contains money owed to people (most even have their own web site for it), so does the federal govt. If you find it on a govt or local gov list it is for real, could be an old bank acct you forgot that had interest on it, a tax return, anything...i got some money once from an acct my ex and I had that I though he had closed out...wasn't much since it was just interest, but hey a few hundred bucks was a nice surprise!
