When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of 'empire building' by George Bush. He answered by saying, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." It became very quiet in the room.

hahaha i dont swing at anyone, just copied what was there. and actualy it was the reply to the comment, not the nationality of the people. "The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return"

OK I have got my very cynical head on today. America made some more RAH RAH noises at Iran. The price of oil as a consequence went up to 97 per barrel. There is no way America is going into any other country as they can't afford the current war they are losing. As the Bushes have heavy connections to oil industry and the Saudis (who by the way are the financial backers of Ossama and he is Saudi too) I think its all BS to keep the price of oil high. During the cold war America and Russia worked together to keep price of grain and gold artificially high. Load of BS again. junie

Have a swing at the English eh? Good thing you are so far away. Poltics away here's a swing back - Billy Graham decided to take a world tour and visit all the distinguished religious leaders of the world. First he visited the Pope, as they got along he noticed an old red telephone in the corner. He asked what it was for. The Pope said it was his personal direct line to God. Oh! said Billy curious. I need to some guidance at the moment may i use it. Of course said the Pope but there will be a charge. Billy got on the phone and spoke to God and got his problems sorted. Thanks he said. How much will that be? $500 said the Pope. Billy paid it. Next Billy visited the Dalai Lama again he saw a red phone in the corner. Again the Dalai explained it was his direct phone to God. Again Billy asked to use it. The Dalai said of course but there would have to be a charge. So Billy used the phone again. Got some more busimness sorted and finished. How much is that then please Dalai? $800. Fair enough for a phonecall to God. Billy continued with his tour of the world eventually he got to England and popped in to see the Archbishop of Canturbury. Head of the Church of England. He also had a red phone - direct line to God. Billy thought I'd best not miss up on the chance as I'm back home tomorrow. So he asked and was given permission to use it. He got off and turned to the Archbisop and said "How much?" and proceeded to pull out hundreds of dollars in notes. Archbishop waved it down. "No No. Its just 5 cents" "5 cents!!" said Billy. How come its not hundreds of dollars like with the Pope and the Dalai Lama? "Ah well." said the Archbishop "You see this is a local call." ;) junie
