What/ who or how did you get into bikes ???

Hello JoJo,i guess i got into motorbikes some thirty years ago when my best friend,s dad got an old yamaha.Started doing schoolboy motocross in 79 then passed my test in 87 and started with the road bikes.I've had sports bikes and harleys but at minute got a new z1000 and ktm525 and love them both.

My dad was the culprit. Bought me a 50cc Honda so I could get to the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Besides the values he installed me like enjoying a sherry while lying under a car and working on it, the Golden Rule, a fondness for classical music and the Goon Show and good work ethics, the Bike he gave me started a line of bikes I now have that is more enjoyable to me than anything I have. I said to him one day before he passed...dad that 50cc was the greatest gift you gave me and also the appreciation of classical music..so I proceeded to play him Jimi hendrix's version of the Star Spangled Banner...he said...very interesting and we laughed hysterically. So whenever I knock back a sherry or port, or ride my bike, I think fondly of the old man and thank him for that 50cc Honda...god rest his soul! Thanks Dad! You're the man!

Well, Joe, both my Dad & Grandad had bikes so I guess it was inevitable....
I got my first, a Honda C50, when I was 11 & I have owned another 27 bikes since! Although Dad is 76 now he still has 5 bikes, the biggest being a Laverda 500.
