When I found out I was gonna be a Daddy again, and my girlfriend at the time was not gonna quit, I did. The biggest addiction connected with cigarettes is the physical part, the ceremony we make of holding it, lighting it, taking a hit, looking cool with it, that's the part everybody has trouble with, because you're always seeing somebody else doing the ritual, and it makes you want to join in. So that's the part you need to get over first. I used the patch for the first 30 days, and when I wanted the nicotene, I just pushed the patch up against me, imagining it was pushing it into my blood stream faster, and believe me, I pushed it alot. After that, I had the habit pretty much in control, so I stopped the patch and did the withdrawals from the nicotene, which isn't too bad when you tackle it without the habit pushing at you too. I still see people gathering and smoking and I imagine being in the circle with them, but then I think about the evil taste that it leaves, and that's all I need to resist. You have to be really ready to quit, for yourself, not because OF somebody, and reward yourself every week by spending the money you save on new clothes, or going out to eat. You'll be surprised how the rewards help you stay quitted. I haven't had a cigarette since Feb 7th, 1993. I hope this helped you, or anyone else who's having trouble. It's the hardest addiction I've ever had, and I was returned from Vietnam on the drug program, a Heroin addict, and cigarettes was harder to put down, cuz it's so available.
I have been smoking for over 20 years, on and off. I have tried the patch, gum, being hypnotized, and other assorted therapies. I do not smoke in my house or cars. I could go for a couple of weeks without smoking. It is when I have an adult beverage I have the urge to smoke. Maybe I should not drink.Naaaaaaaa. Good luck
Your miricle cure is here.. They are called nicotrol inhalers. Not the nasal type but the cartrige type. I was diagnosed with emphasema back in Dec.. My doc gave them to me and I quit january 4th.
Up until that time for the past 8 years I was a 4 - 5 pack a day smoker. (years of tending bar gave me that habbit).
To get them to work effectively... there are some key things you have to do. First get rid of every ashtray and lighter you have along with any stray packs of smokes. Focus only on the inhalers.
Cartridges come in blister packs of 6 and will give you 20 minutes of inhale time per cartrige. They do work.
Huff on it for about 5 minutes when you would normally light up. Stick it in your pocket til time for another smoke.. then huff on it again for 5 minutes. I went through about 6 cartriges a day for the first month then I naturally just started just lettin myself ween off of them by the 2nd month I used maybe 2 or 3 cartridges a day.
They really do work. And you would be amazed at the things you smell after. I had to repaint the whole house to get the nicotine smell out of it .. didnt realize it smelled like an ashtray.
You will want to do that too because it will bug ya later.
They are perscription but they work great. It not only tackles the physical addiction but also the habbit of lighting up. Something patches don't do... Additionally patches for me never really cured my need for nicotine. The inhalers did.
Delivers it right to the tounge where it instantly hits the blood stream and takes effect just like cigarettes.
I quit smoking the last day of last year.. so 3 months no smoking! I had been smoking some 33 years I figured.. quit several times but this time really feels like it's sticking! I used the step-down patches for 6 weeks. I think they helped alot... took the edge off. You sound like you hate smoking enough that you'll be ok... just do it. I set a date & got my brain ready for it. Of course I prayed for strength! I REALLY don't miss the smell on my clothes.. don't miss the money I spend.. there's so many neat things about NOT smoking! Its so wonderful to be free of it. You will be miserable until you just give it up... because you sound like I sounded before I gave it up.. I was just soooo sick of smoking! & THAT, my dear is a good thing!!! YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE BEING A NON-SMOKER!!.. and from the time you put out that last cig, you truly are a non-smoker! HEY, BELIEVE ME, IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Oh & I wanted to add that your local Health Food Stores have some things. I used something called "Stop Smoking" which was a brown liquid (lobelia) you take with an eyedropper & I also used another quit smoking aide with lobelia. It came in the form of little bitty round mints & that helped. I REALLY liked the toothpicks I found there tho... the health food store sells mint toothpicks made out of teatree that you can literally chew on for hours! Each one of the stop smoking aides were around $10 each & the toothpicks were like $4 so not too bad. About as much as a carton of cigs!
Basically, the best thing to do is change your paradigm. We can't change the reality that it takes 3 days for the physical addiction to wear off, but we can certainly change the way we address the phsycological addiction.
Let's say you smoke a pack a day, and it takes 7 minutes to smoke one cigarette.
That means in 24 hours, you only smoke for 2 hours and 20 minutes.
That means you don't smoke 21 hours and 40 minutes of each day.
How addicted can you be?
Start looking at it this way and it should be easier to reconcile yourself with how much easier it is to quit or cut down.
The reason that some people gain weight when they quit? Food tastes better, so they eat more of it.
thanks so much for the push i need .its a scary thing but i know i must in order to feel better .
congratulations on your sucess.ill be thinking of your every word on this journey believe me .
thanks again -kaye
I can sure relate. I quit smoking 20 yrs ago. I knew I wanted to:for my health. Wasn't a problem for me back then. A friend was lighting cloves a while ago, I loved the scent and was lighting up, just for fun. Now, hahahaha. I crave the little buggers! Even after 14 days without, I want 'em!
What is your reaction to Wellbutrin?
