    When it's WINTER in Wisconsin,
    And the gentle breezes blow,
    About seventy miles an hour
    And it's fifty-two below.
    You can tell you're in Wisconsin
    'cause the snow's up to your b utt,
    And you take a breath of WINTER air
    And your nose holes both freeze shut.
    The weather here is wonderful,
    So I guess I'll hang around,
    I could NEVER leave Wisconsin.
    My feet are frozen to the ground.

    Well Hun, I can't prove you wrong & I'm going to have to believe what you say! But I'm still sticking to the fact that Wisconsin has yummy cheese here & yummy cheese curds! You'll see once you get your body over here for a visit...which by the way...when is that happening? I'm really trying to be patient here you know...

Now I get to go try to shovel 4 inches of ICE off my sidewalks (that's the ice that is UNDER the 6 inches of snow)!     Yeah, hey gf? Go figure! We didn't get to leave work early, which was probably a good thing! The roads were crappy enough driving that night. There was a bad accident on the road I live on too. Earlier in the day? One of my friend's daughter called her Mom & said she had left work to go to her Dr. appt. & lost control of her car & ended up damaging both the front & rear of her car when she hit the medium & ended up facing traffic. Thank goodness another vehicle didn't hit her. Well? A cop got there & was very nasty to her & gave her a ticket for inattentive driving. Crazy hey?
    But I'm in total agreement with you girl regarding our WI BK get togethers!! I can't wait for our next get together!!

    Are you sure Saxon...(wink) WI is known as the Dairy state & cheese is one of the things we're known for...besides beer & other good stuff!

    I did a copy & paste of this recipe that I found on the internet so I could share with all of you. Enjoy! I've only eaten them fried. I may have to try the other ways of eating them as written at the end! Yum!

    Deep-Fried Cheese Curds: "Mmmm, good!" These are served as appetizers in many local restaurants. Here's how to make some. Use chunks of mozzarella or other mild cheese (cut to 1/2 by 2-inch size pieces).
    Make a runny batter using beer or water as the liquid. GoldenDipt "All-Purpose Batter," available in most grocery stores, works fine. Its ingredients are primarily corn flour, wheat flour, salt, and a little leavening, so you could probably whip up a batch from that. Dip the cheese pieces in the batter, make sure each piece is completely coated, drain a little, then roll them individually in breading. GoldenDipt "All-Purpose Breading" works fine, but finely crushed breadcrumbs might work, also. Store the coated cheese pieces in a plastic bag in the freezer (important!) for an hour or until you are ready to cook.

    Heat cooking oil to deep-fry temperature. I don't have a thermometer, but my "Fry-Daddy" electric deep fryer is probably at 375?F. Drop the cheese pieces in hot oil for 2 to 3 minutes or to taste, then remove and drain on paper towels. If you did everything right, each piece should have a shell of cooked batter around soft insides. They should be cool enough to bite into in just a few seconds. Eat them while they're hot!

    I like to dip them in ranch dressing or chip dip.

    Or mixing in a little Hidden Valley Ranch dry dip mix to the batter before frying, then dipping the final result in garden salsa.

    Hi Star, Here's something that I just did a copy & paste of explaining what a cheese curd is. Hope it helps!

    What in the world is a Cheese Curd?

    Cheese curds are fresh, young cheddar cheese in the natural, random shape and form before being processed into blocks and aged. (Cheddar cheese is typically aged from 60 days to 4 years before being sold.) Unlike the aged variety, curds lose their desirable qualities if refrigerated or not eaten for a few days (the squeak disappears and they turn dry and salty). This means that even if you can find them in ordinary supermarkets, they are probably a few weeks old, and inedible or at least unremarkable.

    Here's the address & website to order Wisconsin cheese & cheese curds if anyone cares to do so. They were much liked out in NYC when I brought them out there for friends to try!

    Per Jalle's suggestion, I'm posting where you can go online to order some Wisconsin cheese & cheese curds! Glad I could share a piece of Wisconsin with all of my friends this last weekend! See? Cheese curds aren't all that bad now are they? :) I MISS YOU GUYS!!!

    I traveled thru Wisconsin once with a friend from Colo his family lives in the northern Mich. What pretty scenery there in the summer all those rolling hills of green grass got be a great place to ride I going to have to try go back there someday.

    I look at this thread all the time and wonder. There are so many reasons I like Wisconsin, after all, I choose to live here.

    Yes, I do get away a little in the dead of winter and go to a warmer climate for a spell, but that just breaks up the winter months. Years ago when I was younger stronger and healthier, I did a lot more than I do now in the winter.

    Ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing, down hill skiing, snowshoeing, (BTW, I still make snowshoes if anybody would like some), sledding, dog sledding and plenty of just plain old relaxing because things seem to slow down a bit in winter up here in the northland.

    Summer, Spring and Fall are beautiful too. But not too many sights are as beautiful as what I saw yesterday.

    I was driving West on US Highway 2 towards Duluth from Ashland and saw a huge Golden Eagle in a tree, just sitting, about 30 yards from the roadway.

    I slowed and braked, did a "U" turn, and went back by going real slow. I did another Yoo ee, then drove by again even slowr. The Eagle stayed right there, He was big, real big. I made eye contact for a brief moment, layed down my tobacco and went on my way.

    Now that is why I like Wisconsin, and Minnesota, and upper Michigan, and North dakota, and sou....................................................................................

    We used to live in wisCONsin (or so I am told we still say it, now in Jersey. Thing we miss most, or not, is the freakin amazing temperature drops! coming down the long hill towards our house the temp literally dropped from
    -2 to -11 in the space of a mile. I remember we moved into our house in Feb the air temperature was like -18 and the wind chill was -53 (before they changed the way they calculate). But the summers, oh the summers, 97 and so humid you could scoop up the air with a spoon, skeeters so thick that you would get munched even in broad daylight! Good lord we miss that place!, seriously the back road riding was second to none!
