Definatly DYNA....I do not like the way the softails handle going into corners...I have yet to feel like my 2000 WideGlide was going to bury the nose into the pavement like I did test driving a 2006 Springer....
I also own a standard (00' FXST), I'm in the process of acquiring a Heritage (also a Softail). I've ridden both the Softail and the Dyna, "to me" the Dyna seemed to have a tad more vibration, especially at low speeds. I didn't care for the way it shook like a Chihuahua just out of the bath while sitting. But in all fairness, the Softails do handle funny in corners if you're not used to it, due to the way the shocks are setup. It was a tough choice when I was looking for a new bike. I was down to either the Dyna Wide Glide, or the Softtail Standard.
I don't know if it's still the case, but at the time, I also found that their were more custom goodies available for Softails than Dynas when I was looking at customize options.
I would have been elated with either, but what swayed me in the end was that the guy with the Dyna decided he couldn't part with it, and the guy with the Softail wanted a fishing boat so bad he made me a deal I just couldn't pass. Both are great bikes!
I own an 02 FXST Softail Standard, plain Jane bike, but been pretty good to me.I havent rode a Dyna, but they are nice looking bikes. I am thinking about getting a Hertiage Softail next time round. Something with some bags and a little more flash. To each their own.
Tree....Just picked my bike up today from the HD shop. There were two recall items that HD fixed for nothing. New throttle cable and new fuel line.
The Dyna is loaded on the trailer and I'll be heading down to New Mexico and Arizona for a little winter riding. I got about a month, then hoping to come home, re-load and head out for Daytona.
Hopefully will hook up somewhere some day, Cape Cod, Cut's, Doc's, wherever, however.
When I picked up the bike, the mechanic told me he liked the way it sounded. With those RB's , we do get a unique rumble. They got a great website with short movies and soundbytes of their stuff. RBRacing dot com

I had ordered the pipes in late april , when I had just bought the bike, didn't get them til august! Almost abandonned the order a couple of times, but every time I went on line to look at other pipes and their specs, I knew that I had to wait..I had to ride with those terrible sounding/performing screaming eagles that were on it when I bought it... god they were useless. Also I made some calls to other places and found the same scenario, when buying black, it was always incumbent that whoever made them would have to wait for the coaters to get a big enough batch together to make it worth while.
And they aren't powder coated, but black ceramic...they just don't clean up too nice. When i emailed R&B they said to use soap... any soap... still the boot black that melted into them (before I got used to how they stick out).. R&B also told me that they had had a couple of bad batches of coating, and i am starting to suspect that mine is one... not to excited about the possability of removing them and sending them back and waiting again.. might have to go chrome as it happens faster....will just have to wait and see...

I had mine put on last Spring. RB took forever, so, the custom shop got the raw pipes and had them coated locally, saved me some time, (still had to wait a month).
They were fading pretty good up top from the heat. The custom shop was not pleased. He made the powder coater re-coat them, I just had that done last month.
He said to not use harsh detergents on them. Just rinse or wipe them off, then use any silicon spray on them after wiping. When he got em' back this last time, he got the bike up to temp a couple of times to "season" the coating.
I also bought the heat shields this past winter from RB for the top end. I also bought those un-coated and he coated them with the re-coat of the pipes so they would be from the same batch.
Anyway, when the guy at the shop test drove the bike after repairing another matter, he said he couldn't believe the motor was stock. I also run an open intake called a "Maliair" from a place called Crossroads, right here in Wisconsin.
Being a 2004 and injected, I use a Revtec fuel optimiser system that gives it plenty of fuel when I twist the wick, but I got 47 MPG on a trip last summer and had the same mileage and performance at sea level that I had at 14,000 feet in the mountains.

Anyway, just noticed the pipes, you don't see many around, at least not around here in the Midwest. I think they are tops.
I've only riden softtails. I've got a 2000 Night Train. I road it 2000 miles in 4days and walked better than my buddy on a full dresser 2003 Road King. Better make that could ride. After the horse accident in August. It's up for sale. Make you a good deal on it.

The question now is are you confused yet, lol. My personal taste is the softail but this is just me. My advise would be when you are ready to buy, go to the HD shop of your choice and a few softails and dynas to test ride and pick the one that fits like your best pair of drawers, after all, it's your a$$ lol. I will never get rid of my springer, it has placed in 7 of the 8 shows I have entered it but my next one will be the ultra with a TV and Sat dish if I can find a good place to mount them.

Started with a '05 Superglide and traded for an '06 Wide Glide after 2 months. The WG fits me well, and rides and handles like a dream.
I've been told the Dynas handle better than the Softails, but don't have an opinion myself.
I'm liking the six speed tranny now that I'm getting used to it. The five speed felt like it needed another gear on the highway, and the six speed fills the bill nicely. The main difference is around town; with the five speed, I could get up to speed and putt around at 35 mph in 5th gear with no strain on the engine. With the six speed, don't even think about 5th gear until you hit 45 mph, and the sixth gear is only good at highway speeds 55 mph and above.
I've added saddle bags and a quick release windshield so far. The Screamin' Eagle slip ons and intake mod will happen when the tax refund gets here. Detachable sideplates w/ sissy bar and luggage rack, along with a touring pack will happen some time this spring.
I ride almost every day, at least to work and back. 23 degrees has been my coldest morning so far. Bring on the warm weather!
