Children: They come into our lives and change everything. They change our lives, our routines, our habits, our schedules. Especially babies, their needs and demands are immediate. We give up sleeping, eating on time, recreation, anything for these wondrous beings that have been given to us on loan. They wrap their little selves around our hearts and put down roots. And we never knew our hearts could hold so much love.

Children: They grow and have a long list of firsts, first smile, first food, first sitting up, first step, first word. First Temper Tantrum. We become spellbound idiots, going, "my gosh, how amazing," as if no other child had ever done these things. These little guys make us downright silly. We go through the excitement of seeing each new phase, and often experience just a little sadness at each passing stage. "Awww, they're not babies anymore. They're growing so fast."

Children: They keep growing and maturing. Oh, my, they have their own minds. Well, they always did. But it gets worse. They argue, as much as we'll let them. They're so strong, so willful, so independent. But don't we like that? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It's not easy letting go. Someone said, "They start leaving us as soon as they get here, and it's our job to help them go." (sigh)

Children: They teach us. We are pulled out of our selfishness, our complacency, out of ourselves. We are pulled and stretched outward and upward like young trees forced to grow and become strong as huge oaks. How exciting! How painful. How scary. How wonderful to be a parent.

Here is something that I have kept around for quite some time and just recently found again.

I wanted to share it with all parents who still have young ones in the home, or may be having them in their future.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

A Child's Commandments To Parents

My hands are small, please don't expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture, or throw a ball.

My legs are short, please slow down so that I can keep up.

My eyes have not yet seen the world as yours have, please let me explore safely, don't restrict me unnecessarily.

Housework will always be there, I am only little for such a short time, please take the time to explain things
to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.

My feelings are tender, please be sensitive to my needs don't nag me all day long. You wouldn't want to be nagged for your inquisitiveness. Treat me, as you would like to be treated.

I am a precious gift, please treasure me as God intended you to do. Holding me accountable for my actions, giving
me guidelines to live by and disciplining me in a loving manner.

I need your encouragement and praise to grow.

Please go easy on the criticism, remember, you can criticize the things I do without criticizing me.

Women have the sensitivity to love their children unconditionally and under any circumstances, even when their children disappoint them. What a gift!

There is no love in the world more absolute than a mother's love for her child. No matter what our children do, we want to protect them. It doesn't matter what mistakes they make, we believe they can still get it right.

What a gift you are to the world. By being steadfast and unconditional in your love, you help your children recover from their mistakes and gain the courage to face future hurdles.

You give them the strength and tenacity to become some of the world's most valuable adults - just like you knew they would.

angel....my daughter and i are close at the moment, but there are times we can be very distant to each other....i think it's a mother/daughter thing.....i wonder sometimes if they see us as what they are to become, and we see them as what we use to be....but i do know, when all hell breaks loose, they know we are thier moms and we are just a call away no matter what.....i think that might be how they survive by knowing without a doubt and when needed, we will be there.....i dunno----it's like that with me and nicole anyway, especially in the relationship department more then other things......to the point i feel like smacking her up the side of the head...but she will learn, as we all did and do the hardway unfortunetly.....but every day she grows stronger and stronger and more independent.........

Bea and Seeme, thank you both so much for the nice words! Unfortunately, my daughter and I aren't as close as we should be right now! I regret that, but both of my children are fine young adults! My son has had many adversities in his short 28 yrs. I'm thankful to God and all the powers that be that he's "grown" so well!

angel....i read what you wrote about your son and you...thoes are some heartfelt tears arn't they....i saw my son cry twice (excluding funerals), the first was when i had to tell him his dad was going to die, and he said he would never love anyone again....well time moves on and they grow up...one day he was 18, and he came down the stairs with tears rolling down his face and told me that chris (his one forever love), and broken up with him...i held him and tried to say all the things a parent says, but it tore my heart out....i don't think there is anything worse then having your children cry....your son sounds like a wonderful guy, you did a good job with him.............

Thank you, Wind! As you said, only a parent will ever understand! And Lady, as much as you love those kids...just you wait...there's a reason they're called GRANDchildren! :) I have two of the most gorgeous granddaughters myself!
